Everyone wants to control their mind, but finds it very difficult, when there are a gazillion raging thoughts to deal with! 

One of the suggested skills to develop to calm the mind is to regain control through meditation. 

But, for many, meditation is just too difficult and complicated to master! 

You mean, sit and listen to the beesy bees of thoughts running around?! How exhausting!

Detachment is key to remaining true to your core. It allows you to deal with life without being swayed by people, circumstances and events. It keeps you level headed, emotionally strong, and mindfully aware to make the right decisions for yourself. 

At the start of meditating, many people are faced with those thoughts because they start listening to them. 

When you keep yourself attached to your thoughts, you feel like you’re fighting with them, making them stronger by giving them your attention.... your power. 

It may seem that it requires a lot of effort to concentrate, which is why so many people give up meditating. but it seems that it’s actually harder to live with thoughts you don’t enjoy. When you become a slave to your conditioned unwanted thoughts.

When you detach from your thoughts, you’re able to let go of what’s holding you back and bringing you down.

There will always be excuses if you look for them. Excuses will always get in the way of progress if you let them. But not when you know what you’re doing, and do it consistently. Once you start practicing, the momentum builds which then helps to carry you forth. 

You do not need hours at a time to meditate. If you have four minutes to start getting you still, seven minutes more in the morning, and/or 11 minutes at night, it’s enough to build on the momentum to meditate consistently.

Why is it good to meditate?

Nothing helps you control your thoughts more than when you are in a state of calm. 

When you are calm, your thoughts slow down so you can influence your subconscious mind.  You gain some time to reflect on the thoughts you want to have and consciously choose them more wisely. 

The Buddhists describe this as “transforming the mind”. 

And when you hold the reins of your mind, you get to control the direction of your thoughts and life.
